RED LIGHT THERAPY
Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-level red wavelengths of light to stimulate collagen production, reduce inflammation, and improve skin texture and tone. When applied to the face, red light therapy can promote facial rejuvenation by improving skin health and reducing the signs of aging.
Red light therapy works by penetrating the skin at a depth of up to 10 millimeters, where it is absorbed by the mitochondria in skin cells. This absorption triggers a process called photobiomodulation, which stimulates the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy source for cells. The increased ATP production helps to promote cellular repair and regeneration, which can lead to improvements in skin texture, tone, and firmness.
BLUE LIGHT THERAPY
Blue light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-level blue wavelengths of light to kill the bacteria that cause acne, reduce inflammation, and improve skin texture and tone. It is a safe and effective alternative to topical and oral acne medications, especially for people who are unable to use these treatments due to side effects or other medical conditions.
Blue light therapy works by penetrating the skin at a depth of up to 1 millimeter, where it is absorbed by the porphyrins in acne-causing bacteria. This absorption triggers a process that produces singlet oxygen molecules, which are toxic to the bacteria and destroy them. The destruction of the bacteria can lead to a reduction in the number of acne lesions and improve overall skin health.
RED + BLUE LIGHT THERAPY
Red and blue light therapy can be combined for facial rejuvenation and to treat acne. The combination of both lights can help to improve skin texture, reduce inflammation, and promote collagen production.
Red light therapy works by penetrating the skin at a deeper level and stimulating the production of ATP, which helps to repair and regenerate skin cells. This can lead to improvements in skin texture, tone, and firmness.
Blue light therapy works by killing the bacteria that cause acne and reducing inflammation, which can lead to a reduction in the number of acne lesions and improve overall skin health.
When used together, red and blue light therapy can provide a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation and acne treatment.
TREATMENT
Treatment times and frequencies can vary depending on the device and the specific condition being treated, but typically involve 10-20 minute sessions several times per week. Light therapy can be delivered through a variety of devices, including LED light panels, handheld devices, and full-body light beds. At Ashland Family Acupuncture, we use an LED light panel for facial rejuvenation, inflammation, and acne.
When used as part of a comprehensive skin care routine, red and/or blue light therapy can be a safe and effective tool for facial rejuvenation and acne.
